About The Safe Sister’s Circle

The Safe Sisters Circle is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides free culturally specific, holistic, and trauma-based services to Black women survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault primarily living in Washington, DC's Wards 7 and 8.

 

Position Description

The Safe Sisters Circle (TSSC) is currently seeking survivor-centered and culturally competent applicants for an unpaid general internship opening with our organization. The General Intern will work closely with the Executive Team at TSSC and assist on various projects and programming within the organization. We are looking for a highly motivated, passionate and thoughtful individual who is committed to the work of advancing the interests of Black women survivors of intimate partner abuse.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • This position will work closely with the Acting Executive Director of The Safe Sisters Circle;

  • Assist with the planning, marketing, and implementation of events, including fundraisers;

  • Assist with community outreach, including relationships with nonprofit partners, community members, and other stakeholders;

  • Perform assignments related to ongoing executive projects and program development;

  • Attend, participate in, and occasionally coordinate meetings and events;

  • Conduct research in support of the TSSC’s mission and initiatives;

  • Assist with education resource development;

  • Other duties as may be assigned.

 

Qualifications

We are looking for applicants with the following qualifications:

  • Demonstrated commitment to women’s issues, gender-based violence, and intimate partner abuse;

  • Enrollment in an accredited college or university;

  • Survivor-centered focus, with an interest in issues impacting Black women survivors;

  • A deep understanding of issues impacting survivors;

  • Demonstrate sensitivity to, and understanding of the cultural and socioeconomic status, and knowledge of issues faced, of persons served;

  • Strong oral and written advocacy skills;

  • Excellent research skills;

  • Excellent writing skills with an ability to communicate well with different audiences;

  • Strong computer, and social media skills;

  • Good communication skills;

  • Highly organized with an attention to detail;

  • Willing to learn new things and take on new tasks.

 

 Length of Internship/Time Commitment:

This is a general internship where intern will be working with The Safe Sisters Circle’s Executive team on various projects so there is flexibility in the length and time commitment. This internship can either be for a full year or for a semester depending on applicant’s schedule, preference will be given to applicants who are able to commit to a longer internship.

We ask that intern candidates be available to commit a minimum of 5 hours per week to this internship. However, these time commitments are only minimums, interns can commit more hours per week based on their schedule.

This internship will be virtual, but preference will be given to applicants who are within commuting distance to our organization and willing to assist with in-person tasks related to the organization.
