 Our Values

The Safe Sisters Circle is rooted in our belief that there is value in having an organization focusing on providing a holistic approach for services, using a community based model for Black women, that is run primarily by women of color. The Safe Sisters Circle applies women of color’s racial and gender responsive lens to directly guide the decisions of our organization, its programs, procedures, outreach, and treatment to fight domestic violence and sexual abuse.

Support Our Work

"From the start, I have supported The Safe Sisters Circle because I believe that Black and Brown survivors of domestic violence should have access to attorneys with whom they can identify and trust, who are culturally sensitive and trauma-informed.  As a nonprofit organization, the Safe Sisters Circle provides legal services at no costs and paid, not volunteer, employment opportunities for attorneys. I am thrilled they are expanding to provide holistic services for healing to women in Wards 7 and 8." - TSSC Donor

 Origin Story

In 2018, The Safe Sisters Circle (TSSC) was founded by Alana C. Brown, Esq. because she saw first hand a disconnect between providers in Washington DC and Black women survivors looking for services. TSSC began providing legal and advocacy services to survivors the same year. After five years of service to the Washington DC and East of the River communities, TSSC has expanded its services to include short-term counseling.

TSSC has always worked to better connect Black women and girl survivors in Washington DC with the support they need to thrive free from abuse and violence in their lives and communities.
